HOW IT WORKS

The 1st Annual Bug Battle Hooping Tournament presented by Promar runs from September 28th at 6AM (the official start of the Southern California Spiny Lobster Season) through Friday, March 6th. Monthly winners will be announced at the end of each month during the lobster season while two Grand Prize winners will be announced on Saturday, March 7th at the Fred Hall Show in Long Beach. The tournament is completely FREE for all anglers to participate for a chance to win over $2,500 in prizes in three different divisions.

HEAVIEST BUG OF THE MONTH

The heaviest single lobster submitted for the month.

To Participate:

1. Grab an Entry Card from a participating retailer.
2. Go hooping and take a picture of your lobster in a Promar Hoop Net.
3. Go into a participating retailer to weigh-in your lobster and document your catch.

TOP 3 COMBINED WEIGHT AT END OF SEASON

The total combined weight of the 3 heaviest California Spiny Lobsters for an angler in the season.

To Participate:

1. Grab an Entry Card from a participating retailer.
2. Go hooping and take a picture of your lobster in a Promar Hoop Net.
3. Go into a participating retailer to weigh-in your lobster and document your catch.
4. Submit the 2 photos to promarbugbattle@gmail.com

LONGEST CATCH & RELEASE BUG 

The longest California Spiny Lobster caught, measured and released in the season.

To Participate:

1. Grab an Entry Card from a participating retailer.
2. Go hooping and take a picture of your lobster in a Promar Hoop Net.
3. Take a picture of the lobster on a flat surface next to a measuring device at the time of catch.
4. Video record the lobster being released.
5. Submit photos and video to promarbugbattle@gmail.com

RULES & REGULATIONS

– All participants must comply with all local, State & federal laws, including those of the U.S. Coast Guard, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

– California Spiny Lobsters submitted for weigh-in must be caught in a Promar hoop net.
*Participants may be required to show their completed California Lobster Report Card during an official weigh-in to verify if the lobster was caught in a hoop net.
*Lobster caught by hand or by any other means other than a Promar hoop net will not be accepted and will be grounds for disqualification.

– Each entry requires ( 2 ) photos submitted.

  1. Must submit a summary photo of the lobster in a Promar hoop net the night it was caught.
  2. Must submit photo of lobster on an official scale at a participating retailer.

*Entry card must be visible and legible in weigh-in photo.

– The Catch and Release Division requires, in addition to the photos, a video of the lobster being released the night it was caught. 

– Follow and like us on Facebook and Instagram to get live updates of submissions, view leader board, and hooping tips.

– Each angler may submit up to (1) lobster per day.
* The more often you go hooping, the more points you can score by weighing in a lobster each day.

– Participating Retailers will mark each lobster after the regulation weigh-in photo.

– Lobsters brought to weigh-in must be freshly caught. Live lobsters are preferred while frozen lobster will not be accepted.

Heaviest Lobster of the Month winners will be announced on the last day of each month from September through February.

– ( 2 ) Grand Prize winners will be announced at the 2020 Fred Hall Show in Long Beach.

– Tournament rules posted on the official Bug Battle Tournament website shall prevail over printed versions of the rules in the event of any discrepancy.

Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions
– Any personal information collected from participants by Promar & Ahi USA during the tournament will not be shared with any third-party company.

– By submitting an Entry Card, participants express consent to allow Promar & Ahi USA to use any media file (photo or video) collected for the tournament, solely for marketing purposes as well as to raise awareness of the Promar & Ahi USA brands.

Sportsmanship
– Sportsmanship is required and expected from every Participant.

– Any person attempting to manipulate an outcome in any division will be disqualified and may be subject to prosecution.
